Mentorship - Portliness and 3.47 Miles of Gasping For Air

We all have the need for stress relief.  To me establishing a venue or means of escape from the world of mental bondage is critical for prevention of madness.  That term may sound extreme but isn't that what bondage creates?  My own paramount source of bliss is taking a long drive in my beat up old 1990 Mazda Miata convertible.  I always wanted a convertible and so a few years back I bought one off of an ad on Facebook.  It's a good little car that fits my shortness.  I love it and hopefully it has the same sentiments for me.  (Please.....laugh a little).  Mine is MUCH less in "mint" condition than the one pictured. 😒

However, that is for me.  This post deals in a little different direction but along the same lines of stress relief - running.  If you are one of those fitness nuts that enjoys running (repent all of you!) you may associate with these feelings.  I do my run/walk of about 3.47 miles "most" every day on the Wabash Trace in Southwest Iowa.  Sure, for me a good walk is my secondary reliever of stress.  Getting older fitness has taken a back seat.  It's not like when I was a little younger and had my Taekwondo school.  Anyhow, today being another drought-ridden sunny and hot day I did go for a "tiptoe through the tulips" out on the trace.

Though the complete Trace is 62 miles it is 3.47 round trip from our sports park to where it crosses a main highway.  I used to be able to jog the complete 3.47, but being just a tad be portly around the 'ol waist in my more seasoned years I do more brisk walking than running.  It is mostly paved and scenic with trees, vast areas of tall corn growing on each side and a bridge crossing the Nishnabotna River.

On this day, however, I was impressed by a older passerby on a bike ride on the Trace.  As I passed her she cheered me on and encouraged me to continue the jog though I was gasping for air with each step.  NOTE:  I'm not that tall so it takes me double the steps as others to get to where I'm going πŸ˜‚.  This struck me at how important it is to encourage one another.  Being an individual person offering the praise it uplifted as a mentor.  I've mentioned before in other writings the need to address each other.  Perhaps it is time to take it a step further and take upon yourself the subconscious title as mentor to someone else.

Also as I mentioned before, these writings are mostly for my own posterity sake and also because I love to write.  So, I address this topic as a reminder to me the need to mentor or take someone under your wing.  Yet, it is an outreach to others to do the same.

I am reminded of a time in my youth when this young man was very shunned and often made fun of in school.  Dang!  Now I'm reach back 35 years or so.  Anyhow, being an extreme introvert I didn't do much to reach out.  Looking back, how could I have been a better friend?  How could I have uplifted his spirits just a little more?  We all fall short from time to time in making a positive difference in others people's lives.  Nevertheless, dwelling on the past is cancerous.  Applying it to the future is everything.

Take these words for what it is.  Apply it or crap it out.  Whatever.  My last words of wisdom for the day is to get your portly belly out of the house.  Find a trail or even your own road.  Take that long walk or run.  Give it several minutes, raise your arms and see the people behind you gasping for air from the pollution of your pits (please laugh at the graphic pictureπŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜‚).

As you can guess I love to laugh.  In the words of a great Mongolian I bid you "arrivederci!"  For those of you that know languages please laugh.........

Coronavirus and the Era of Unemployment and Hope in Peril

In perilous financially troubled times of COVID-19, or Coronavirus, we are humbled to uncertainties of the future.  It has gripped our attention to the things we take for granted.  Things like our careers, our income, intrinsic wealth and even our lack of compassion is taken for granted.  All these things when regularly supplied dulls our senses to hope.  Many in this demographic have lost their work and livelihood during this pandemic.  Many have dropped so far as to lose all hope and have found themselves in the pit of desperation.

To all of those millions……………….I have no words of consolation.

If you are still reading this and find yourself in this category then you are clinging on to that thin string called hope.  This is not your garden variety “pep” talk or cliche words of encouragement.  Those are a dime a dozen out there.  This is my story and my journey.  Take it for what it is.

I remember back when I was eleven.  Up to that point my life was filled with pain and periodic medical treatment.  Both of my kidneys were blocked and was poisoning my system.  The proper nuclear medical procedures finally have developed enough to allow my surgical procedures.  You may ask what that has to do with COVID-19 or what’s dubbed the China Virus.  In my journey…..everything.

As a young child I was severely introverted both before and especially after those surgeries.  I was very protective of my kidney area and recoiled at every little situation.  These things took a lifetime it seemed to work through.  The point is that in those times - hope for me was trivial.  Before those procedures I had to cling to the hope of my mother.  That alone sustained me.  After - though recovering, I felt I had no reason to hope.  Especially for a young man commencing his confused adolescence.

Yet, even in the midst of believing there is no reason to hope you have to keep breathing.  That is the foundation of the human design in this life.  In times of hardship like these we need to keep breathing if we find ourselves without hope.  Even if we take the hard pill and file for welfare state assistance to feed our families we need to keep breathing.

So, I kept breathing.  I went into the military as a rebellious “ass” at the beginning of Desert Storm and came out with a medical discharge.  Another major setback seemingly without hope but I kept breathing.  No, I never went to college but chose to amass a vast wealth of knowledge that I relish to share with others.  I’ve learned from the ground up the precepts of manufacturing, shipping, logistics, territorial management, government and international work and management at all levels.

Sure, there have been many times (more than I can count on my fingers and toes) that I’ve felt without even hope.  Nevertheless, I’m here which means I still chose to keep breathing.

Let’s bring it back to the Coronavirus.  Sure, we’ve suffered major economic and social turmoil.  However, unlike the Great Depression we now have the ability to quickly snap back from such societal ailments.  Even now most all sectors of the economy are on the “V” swing rise at an unprecedented rate.

In my final few words I turn my attention to those serving in talent acquisition, human resource or just plain those in charge of hiring new employees.  Learn to take that leap of faith on a person.  Don’t toil yourselves with digging through hundreds of applications for that “one” you feel will carry your company into the 25th century.  Reflect on your own lives.  Do any of the words above describe you or your family growing up?

Please don’t dismiss the worth of those with age either.  We may not be millennials or even the most tech savvy.  Yet, we have a wealth of knowledge and discipline that only time and experience can supply.  The young are equally important.  Likewise, the well “seasoned” are equally as important as the young.

I’ve tried to keep this as focused as I could without straying or confusing people too much.  I believe I’ve failed at that one (lol).  Still, I can break down or condense down the entire subject matter into one little sentence.

You must keep breathing….even when you feel there’s no reason to hope.

Unemployment and Weight Loss in Times of Infectious Virus

2020 is a year that truly sucks for millions of Americans.  COVID-19 has gripped a nation and drove the economy down.  No, the economy does not have a gloomy outlook, but that has little healing remedy for the here and now among the unemployed.  How does one recover?  How does one cope when the job market is saturated with the destitute in the same situation?  This is not a post on overcoming the fear and anxiety.  It is not a post of self pity.  There are plenty of those out there.  Instead I'd like to visit what is it and the ramifications it has on the self and the family.

For many we have worked decades straight just to have 2020 happen.  A humbling experience hardly describes it.  Like it or not it is true that money makes the world go around.  Sure there's love among mankind and pursuing the activism of climate change or even war.  Still, let's be honest, the ability to support financially your family is what makes it all happen.  For most we ask not for handouts.  We do not ask for platitudes or sympathy.  We only ask for civility, friendship and yes even networking (of friendship).  There is nothing better to one under the bus than to have someone there comforting and talking you through it.  I believe that's why a vast throng of population are on social media whether it be Facebook, LinkedIn or some other platform.  Networking, yes.  Finding a job, yes.  But it is the undeniable desire to connect with a smile and friendly exchange that heals the heart in times like these.  I believe it is that desire for not only the unemployed but also those who are affluent and comfortable.

Few things are more discouraging in the job market than knowing that you are among possibly hundreds vying for the same job.  Hope and positive attitude become a scarce commodity in the chance casino of being the "one" out of hundreds marked for that job.  Faith wanes even though you may "feel" like you are meant for that job you applied for.  This leads to the next point I want to make.  This point, in many ways, is more deadly than the financial consequences.

Health.  There are no solid numbers to support it.  We are all different and react to different things in different ways.  However, I believe there is a measurable health risk that accompanies anyone who is unemployed.  I think we can go beyond the obvious.  There is the worrying of putting food on the table.  There is the worry about mounting medical bills and if you are even going to keep your mortgage.  No, I speak now of personal health.

Consider the saturation of the job applicants.  In times of economic success, like last year, there is a marginal ease of spirit that you may be chosen for work.  This I know because I experienced unemployment for the first time after 30 years of work.  During any job search there is that roller coaster of anxiety and hope.  Hope of when you send off that resume.  Hope as you await an answer that they'll be impressed with your resume.  And then to have yourself cut off at the knees when you get that email of "we regret to inform you" or "we've decided to go another direction."  That is a devastating repeated action for the internal and mental health for anyone unemployed.  If you've been there like me then you probably feel like going through the bubonic plague than that constant bounce.

It can and does mess with your diet.  Some may gorge themselves with food.  Others may be too sick to the stomach to eat and therefore start losing weight.  Great changes come with unemployment.

Now, don't get me wrong.  Having been the one to hire and terminate during a few careers in the past I understand that it can be difficult to let someone down in a satisfactory and compassionate way.  In addition, management must be able to let it slide somewhat just to keep pace and sane in the world of business.  Again, no blame on either side of the table, but rather the desperate need for that friend.

I write in generalities.  I write about the whole of a people and rarely of myself.  Yet, I will break tradition this once as it illustrates what I'm talking about.  In a couple of sentences I'll say that I had to have emergency treatment in the middle of the night.  I believed it was my heart but instead it was diagnosed as stress.  For all the despondent the struggle is real.

I have been a writer and public speaker for the Constitution of the United States for decades.  I thoroughly believe that each American is endowed with the right to pursue happiness.  As a therapy to me as it is to everyone reading this that means utilizing faith and hope.  It is the hardest thing to hold on to but we must believe it to be real.  Our forefathers built a nation upon it.  So can we.

In conclusion, this is not a blame post or pity post.  It is a therapy post first and foremost to me AND to all people employed and unemployed.  Sure, an extended hand of employment is great for any of us.  BUT, the elixir that heals is the extension of the hand in friendship.  A kind word and a direct message (DM) of hope and a jovial joke is what allows us to sleep at night.

Well, enough of this long post.  However, I know it has done some good.  Not that I have the ego to believe it has helped anyone else or even that anyone is as bored as to read all of this.  No, it has helped me personally because I am putting it all down as record instead of bottling up inside.

Well......off to bed!

Cell Phones and the Panic of Loss

In the cellular industry it is easy to spot many simple follies that people fail to avoid.  It is the same with most any industry that you work in.  Each respectively reflects a "service" to the population in whatever need they perceive.  In cellular phones and connected devices the problems are centralized physically but affects most every aspect of a person's life in these modern tumultuous times.

I'll make this post short yet to the point.  Just one little point but probably the most important.  Your phone is your lifeline to your circle of civilization.  It is your connection to contacts, photos, notes and even all those dirty little secrets you may have.  Impact on business affairs may be the most devastating if vital information is lost.  Protecting and backing up that information can be a God-send.... or an albatross of epic proportion if neglected.

Whether in Apple, Samsung, Motorola or other there is an option to save your information via backup to the iCloud.  When activated it usually defaults to backup your information nightly.  It also gives you the vital apps to choose which you want backed up.  Many have an iCloud account if they possess a cellular phone.  However, with the popular Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Live, Me and other public and private emails most do not use their iCloud account.

When I see an individual come into one of my U.S. Cellular stores with a broken phone the first thing I think is "I hope they are backed up to the Cloud."  Yet, when a customer is asked most will say they do not know.

All of their (your) information, their life, now at the whim of "I don't know."

Do yourself a favor and back up your information.  It's quite simple.  It is located in most systems under Settings (that little gear icon).  Usually at the top is your personal information and tether to the Cloud.  In the next screen is your iCloud option in which to switch on or off your backup option.  It is also where you choose what apps to back up.  If I've really made you apprehensive you can either opt to "Back Up Now."  That is usually located at the bottom of that screen.

Backing up your information makes it very simple to migrate to a new device when you upgrade and replace your phone due to loss, stolen or damaged.  Once your new phone is set up on the network just log in to your Cloud and the information should download automatically.  If you do switch to a new device always ALWAYS remember your iCloud email (username) and password.  That's they keystone to everything! 😎

Do yourself a favor.  In order to save your friends from thinking you hate them because you've lost your contact information - back up that info.  In order to sway having your business go into default because you can't monitor transactions on-the-go - back up that info.

Happy back ups and may your thumbs do the walking. :)))))

Easter to Humble Modern Civilization

There are two highly emotional holidays among Christians and non-Christians alike.  Those are Christmas and Easter.  It is good that they are emotional.  Emotions are the means by which man expresses and marks his life moment by moment.  How can it not?  Jesus Christ according to doctrine is the author of our salvation.  Of course its highly emotional.  However, is it possible we miss vast amounts of knowledge and insight by strictly observing the emotional application of the holidays?

I just want to focus on Easter since that is the holiday for today.  The main picture people recall in their head of Easter (aside from bunnies and eggs) is the cross and Jesus affixed upon it in agony and death.  Yes, this is factually and historically correct.  He gave up his own spirit in order to save mankind from their sins.  This, in order to erect that bridge, once again from our feet back to the Father.  Yet, is there anything else we can glean from this scene?

There is a Christian hymn called "How Sweet the Joy That Easter Morn."  In it is the phrase,
"All nature groaned in deep distress, The sun and moon grew dim."

If Jesus Christ was and is a God then is it possible that the very elements of all nature became distressed at such a profound climax as the physical death of that God?  I dare say yes!  Now, look at the picture again of Him upon the cross.  Imagine the epic shock of his very body cells at the absence of His spirit.  Here we have flesh, from the beginning conceived only by the Spirit, in distress.  Flesh out of their element for thirty years housing the Spirit of God.  Now, like a lamb without her mother or a parent at the loss of their child the elements are surely in a state of "groan."

This thought kind of magnifies the depth and humility of the significance the Atonement of Jesus Christ truly has on each of our individual spirit salvation.  If his elements hang helpless without its God upon the cross then surely it is real for all of us.  If the skies and the moon darkened in repose of the state of man then surely it is real for all of us.  If tombs cracked at that moment and many dead truly rose then surely it is real for all of us.

Imagine kneeling at his lifeless feet upon the cross.  You know He is dead and you reach down and gently raise a handful of sand.  Slowly if flows from the hand back to the ground.  Would there have been a different emotional response than before his death?  Would the elements in shock fail to produce joy in the simple pleasures of dropping sand from the hand?

The soldiers and guards who hold dear their spears and swords.  Did their weapons suddenly grow cold at the absence of the One literally holding all creation in their form?  Other records prove out that great world tumults occurred even upon the Americas at the moment of the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.  Even though they must have had sheer fear of the physical events taking place do you think those people had that cold loss in their hearts?  Perhaps they did and were utterly bewildered at the loss of all hope in that moment that we were all born with.  Hope is the product of God within each of us.

Of course, as Christians we know that hope and salvation soon rang through the earth as the Atonement had been completed.  Man, no longer subject to the Fall, can now worthily enjoy rest and renewed work with loved ones and family in the presence of God.

The purpose of this post was not to bring a "lull" to anyone's spirits or a sense of dismay or shame.  It was meant to inspire and bring a sense of awe to the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  Look at the picture of the Savior upon the cross again.  After these thoughts to ponder does it magnify your part in all of this.  This great design is exquisite in nature, brilliant in order and epic in binding all elements and all of us as one.....in Him.

Yes, Mary mourned.  Yes, the disciples mourned, Yes, the thousands touched by Jesus mourned.  YET, all elements on earth and all in the vastness of space groaned at the transformation to a more exalted state of a God.

We are so small yet so big.  We bicker over petty things.  We even kill each other over petty and ill-guided things.  We puff ourselves up and claim our knowledge over our brother.  We lament when we cannot pay the rent.  We rightfully grieve at the loss of a child or a parent.  Especially in modern times we find offense over the smallest insignificant things and demand recompense for it.

All this mud has been paid for 2,000 years ago.  Even your physical makeup, the dust that forms you, existed at the time and groaned.  All matter is connected through all generations of time.  His appearance to thousands three days after and many days beyond bear testament of his divinity.  The Alpha and Omega has bridged the gap between us and the Eternal Father.

Yes, there is much more to ponder than the mere emotional observance of Easter.  Let us ponder with curiosity.  Let us be humbled by it and let us finally treat one another with common civility.

Nebraska and Iowa Flood 2019 and the Electoral College

Those living in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa tend to be at the mercy of the Missouri River basin and points north.  The potential of flooding often degrees according to the outflow of the albatross Gavin's Point Dam in Yankton, South Dakota.  This year of 2019 has seen epic flooding for us living in this area.  This post of thought extends beyond the scope of a flood.  This post extends clear to Washington D.C.  Every geographic location of the United States has risks for its inhabitants.  Given that, equally considered for assistance are those living near the Missouri River.

First, the current political rhetoric attempted to take hold.  With more and more states passing laws which clearly violate or go against laws enacted by Congress there is a frenzied "fad" going on.  This fad has taken on the image of striking the Electoral College as a sacred edict of the Constitution of the United States.  In spite (and TO spite) the 2016 Election many want to observe the Popular Vote as the only litmus of who the next President of the United States should be.  To not understand why this function was included in the Constitution is a shame for every American.  For an elected official to lobby against it is downright an act against the United States.

The Electoral College is put in place to ensure that every vote carries an "equal weight."  That being an objective viable vote regardless of political affiliation and agenda.  This "equal weight" shrined in the Electoral College carries infinitely more validity to every vote than the Popular Vote ever could.  To plunder the College would be to silence the voices of millions living in states where the populations are less than that of others.  Especially others with exceptionally high populations.  The College gathers the concerns of all Americans via the vote and feeds the People the will of said people.

This makes every state important.  This makes personal interaction between the people and a candidate important.  Relinquishing that blanket protection and assurance would render the governance of the people at the blessing of the few states benefiting most from a Popular Vote.

Case in point the 2016 Presidential Election.  In the final days of the campaign season Hillary Clinton exerted all her efforts appeasing to the mega cities.  True this gained her overwhelming votes.  However, by ignoring all other states she had lost all those electoral votes.  If she had won the Presidency by way of the Popular Vote it would have been won according to the sole concerns and desires of the mega city populations.  This disfranchises the farmer in Nebraska.  This silences the proud citizens of dying small communities in North Dakota.  The best common good of the people is what the Electoral College strives for.

Now, what does this have to do with the 2019 Nebraska and Iowa flood?  In politics it is infinitely less about serving the will of the people as it is about strategy and holding on to power at all costs.  In a Popular Vote the power would converge with those states who have such population.  This often also carries common political affiliation.  Every election campaign year would be centered on those states.  That is where the voting power is.  In extension, those states would see the personal attendance of candidates.  Be damned the other states with little voting power.

Take Nebraska for instance.  If Nebraska was deemed of little political influence in the wake of a Popular Vote how do you think assistance would unveil in a natural disaster....say a flood??  New York, Virginia and California would gain a fuller and swifter assistance than an unimportant state.  This is where the flood ties in to Washington.  This is living proof of why the Electoral College was instituted into the Constitution of the United States.  This is why to vanquish the College would be to erase America as it was and should be.

No longer would the United States be of, by and for the people.

Illegal Immigration to United States vs Mom Coming Home

First off, I am vehemently opposed to illegal immigration.  The current political climate has totally disenfranchised the American taxpaying citizen the privilege of pride, security and sovereignty.  We have been abandoned by lawmakers focused only on voters and not their Constitutional duty to serve the American people.  To see endless videos of illegal aliens jumping the southern wall and dredging the rivers is a sickening display of milking the broken American system.  This has recently hit home to me, but first let me rant some more.

Many use the cliche that America is built on immigration.  From a certain perspective, yes, but in reality no.  Historically and in the proper spirit, America has been built by men and women wanting to embrace the American citizenship.  It is built by those who wanted to build pride for themselves and not live off the charity of others.  They left their native lands in the longing desire to touch the hem of the flag.  Their thirst for prosperity was emboldened by true arduous journeys to this land of promise.  THAT is what America is made of - to not replace the culture of America but to assimilate into the culture of America.

Due to illness my mother went to live in Virginia.  She hasn't driven for several years.  My siblings and I have been trying for the past couple months to get her a plane ticket to visit my family here in Iowa.  To this date there is still no plane ticket because of no valid identification.  Because her Driver License is expired that photo ID cannot be used.  The DMV will not issue without a Birth Certificate.  Gee, we get a copy of the Birth Certificate weeks later and take that and SS card and all other things to the DMV.  NOPE!  The Birth Certificate  has her maiden name and the other paperwork and SS has her married name.  Now they need a Marriage Certificate AND a forwarded sticker from her former address verifying a bonafide residence.  So, to speed things up we contacted the airline and inquired if a Birth Certificate and an SS card would be adequate to secure a ticket.
"Well......maybe, but I don't know if TSA will accept it."

So, not having an old Marriage License available we must send off for a copy which will take a turn around of five weeks.

What grinds me to the core is that illegal aliens can jump the fence.  Once their feet lands on our once sanctified soil they are automatically endowed with all essential services and privileges of an American citizen (even voting as it turns out).  So, without a shred of identification, a non-citizen can freely travel and obtain hundreds of thousands of dollars without even working.  In retrospect my mother, who has paid into the system for well over seventy years, can't even easily obtain a plane ticket.  An American citizen is put through an oppressive process that wouldn't even be thought of for an illegal alien.

Have you seen the footage of immigrants taking the oath and pledge of the United States at their legal naturalization??  They - have the true spirit of America.  They - have properly answered the call to claim this soil.  It is almost divine and gives all of us pride.

Why have we been abandoned by our leaders?  "Straight and narrow is the way" to heaven.  Even for heaven there is a qualifying and vetting process.  Is not the human experience a test to see if we can live by higher laws??

We MUST secure our borders and treat immigrants as they should be treated - those humbly wanting to become Americans.  If they have not that desire and reject the legal process and proudly trek holding their native flags, that is nothing more than invasion against our land and against the work put into the system by citizens to pay for services FOR citizens.

Treating our own as second rate to those who have NO business being here is reprehensible and unforgivable.  This must stop or we shame the very flag that shades us.

A Voice for Mollie Tibbetts and Illegal Immigration

It is with deep condolences to the family of Mollie Tibbetts that she had been taken so young and under evil circumstances.  I do not know Mollie but I do live in Iowa and have a strong disdain for what has taken place.  I further believe it is grievous indeed the coverage, or lack of, afforded her and the environment of this crime.  With no real power or authority I censure media outlets like CNN, MSNBC and even The Hill for their bias and and frenzied eagerness to sweep the story under the rug for political reasons and ratings.

The murder of Ms. Tibbetts is heavy for many of us.  I hardly presume to put the few conscious Americans in the same category as the family.  Out of deep respect I will not comment further on the family because their grief runs infinitely deeper than we can imagine.  It weighs heavy because it hit home.  It proved to us that not even a lonely cornfield in a remote part of Iowa is safe anymore to enjoy the clean air, take in the circling birds or endure the humidity of the dense woods and crops.

Mollie Tibbetts was murdered by an illegal alien.  His name is unworthy of mention but the confessed suspect is an original Mexican national and has resided in the United States in rural Iowa for many years.  Like vast numbers from south of the border they are unchecked, undocumented and willingly enter the United States of America with full knowledge that they will spend the rest of their days with guilt and looking over their shoulders.  Thus the true nature of an immigrant is null and void.  A true immigrant embraces the laws, values, principles and precepts of that new home nation.  For this reason "cultural diversity" is not advantageous to any nation.  Any immigrant who wants to leave their home does so in search of change for whatever reason.  A full change of circumstance requires adjusting your actions, thinking and outlook in order to embrace the environment who the Fathers intended to be "one" under the flag and God.  In other words, embracing that which allows one to "pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and to know how to be a full contributing member of that collective.

I've known many of all races, creeds and colors and I am blind to all that superficial jargon.  All are one under God and all are entitled to pursue the enlargement of their potential.  It is with resolute respect that I say to have that clear conscience in order to prosper you must enter a country legally and without the cover of darkness or river.  The wicked tend to silence the many who truly endeavor to this end.

Mollie didn't deserve this!  In my humbled opinion it may not have happened at all had the southern border been secure and the proper laws allowed to be followed.  Did you know that children are enslaved and trafficked over the border?  Did you know that when what appears to be families become separated at the border many of those supposed "parents" do not claim the children they associated with them as they may be turned back to their own homeland?  Did you know millions of dollars worth of drugs come through tightly strapped to old women and children?

And did you know that many good individuals and families seek refuge in the United States that they and their posterity may know opportunity, life, education and love in a new homeland.

For all these reasons a secure and strong border is vital and absolute.  The protection of all Americans, even new ones from Mexico, must be paramount!  Now, the death of Mollie may not have been changed.  The perpetrator and suspected murderer may still have been here, but if he'd of been regularly checked and documented then...perhaps not.

Again, especially in Iowa we grieve with heavy heart for the loss of Mollie Tibbetts and wish all the best and happy memories for all closest to her.

Donald Trump and Why Everyone Likes Him

Yes, I said everyone likes Donald Trump.  Regardless of the rhetoric, hate and certifiable mental illness of the left it is still true that everyone likes Donald Trump.

I remember decades ago as a youngster hearing and getting "vibes" from adults on their take on government.  Though at times people like or dislike the President of the United States at the time the distrust of Congress and government in general remains the same.  There has always been that longing of someone who would truly listen and act in the best interest of the people.  In addition, people sought and still seek a leader who will do what he promises the people.

This cannot be denied.  Not by people back then and not by people now.  In fact, this desire existed since before George Washington walked on to the scene.  So......what gives?

The problem is that people expected their desires to be embodied in some sort of saint.  A shining moral and ethical leader which all men will bend the knee to.  Secretly that is the expectation.  Secretly that is what people desire but would never openly admit to.

Obviously the Democrats on the left, but many Trump supporters also would admit that they may not get along in person with the President.  He is straight forward.  He does take command.  He tells it as he sees it.  These are qualities that most of us are not accustomed to in our circles of family and friends.

Many of the qualities Donald Trump has and exhibits are ones that most of us desire in ourselves.  We want to be able to persuade.  We want to be able to lead.  We want to be rich (admit it).  We want to be fearless in the face of incredible odds.  We want to work with others.  As Americans it is the embodiment of what we want in order to pursue happiness.

Now, I know this sounds like i'm deifying President Donald Trump.  I assure you I am not.  Though I have never seen or spoke with him I imagine I would have a difficult time dealing with him in any stretch of time.  Yet, I can admit many of his talents and qualities are what I strive to acquire.

This is why we love Donald Trump.  There is an essential degree of faith that Americans are expected to exercise as bestowed on us from our Founding Fathers.  This faith manifests in unity and civility where views differ.  Let the man lead as we have every President before of all parties.  If he should fail than so be it.  Yet, our elected officials are duty bound to help and assist the President to move the United States forward.

May we all dampen our emotions and disdain for the elected President Donald Trump.  Let the people of the United States shine once again for all the world to see.  For he is the President of the United States.

Florida vs Gun Control in America

Recently I heard an interview with two candidates running for the office of Governor of Kansas.  These two, one Democrat and one Republican, are teenagers and should be applauded for their courage and perseverance.  However, a comment from one of them did strike me as a common narrative in light of the Florida school shooting leaving seventeen dead.  The danger here is in the national dialogue of the issue which has become very passionate in those favoring strong gun control.  The problem is not Gun Control vs Second Amendment as is illustrated in the media.  What is not being said or explored is a deeper issue that we are too lazy and complacent to work on - Second Amendment vs Mental Illness.

One of the candidates for Governor stated that he understands the mental illness issue but that the problem comes down to guns in the hands of demented people and how to get the guns off the street.  This was striking and I believe goes completely off the harder but necessary road of mental health and rebuilding the family unit in America.

Let us look at the facts.  There were signs all over social media of this imminent threat - yet its still Gun Control vs the Second Amendment.  Even the law enforcement was involved several times - yet its still Gun Control vs the Second Amendment.  Family and school associates mentioned disturbing behavior and depression - yet its still Gun Control vs the Second Amendment.  Is it not a viable comment to say that we are so lazy and complacent as to get ourselves in a frenzy and mentally ill when this happens that we want to attack the gun itself instead of the nexus of the problem?  If we start updating and clarifying the Second Amendment we start the dangerous road to total arms confiscation.  It is the simplest life lesson.  Once you compromise one human principle or precept you are bound to make each associated transgression easier.  You will also be increasingly more apt to accept your own excuses for said transgressions.   You exclude one weapon you will assuredly take the road to arms confiscation.

The national outrage has become so ludicrous that we've totally stripped the perpetrator of any personal responsibility.  Sure, we are all glad to see him in cuffs and in court, but in the public domain the media and American people have the weapon itself on trial.  Not only have we stripped him of responsibility but we've stripped all those who saw the signs and did nothing - and its still the gun's fault.

Know this - with any increasing population and technology you will always have an increase in violent crime and the magnitude of each.

Had those with suspicions been more engaged would this crime have happened?  Perhaps.
Had the perpetrator been given more personal one-on-one help would this have happened?  Perhaps.
Had this person had positive people around him trying to befriend him would this have happened?  Perhaps.
Had the mentally ill mainstream media been more engaged in positive reporting than divisive hate leading to deaths without a second thought would this have happened?  Perhaps.

All these questions and more should be much more addressed and worked on before attacking the gun.  There are millions of guns out there and this candidate and Hollywood stars want to advocate keeping arms out of the hands of children?  That is a futile attempt even with the strictest of gun laws.  Some of the toughest are in Chicago and look where that city is on crime.  Have we not learned from history time and time again that when you regulate and add law upon law the underground market gets stronger and more appealing to especially the young?  You cannot prevent guns in the hands of youth through legislation.  However, you can by addressing the questions listed above and embracing the greatest American tragedy - the breakdown of the family unit.

It is easier to attack the gun because it is physical and we can see it.  Humans are still too like Neanderthals and need to see in order to believe or do anything about.  The gun is inanimate and cannot and never has chosen to kill someone.  That intent rests solely on the person whose finger is on the trigger.  Can we not finally address the real problem which is the human factor?  Will horrible crime still happen if the above is addressed successfully?  Yes, but it is the most logical and sensibly road to take.  As I said, with population and technology comes crime.  Controlling crime is entirely up to us by addressing the human side of mental health.

Our Founding Fathers were literally inspired word-for-word in the greatest Documents on earth.  They knew the British history as well as other societies.  They knew how they all grow toward their own destruction.  If they were not inspired they would have taken care of the Amendments long ago to include all the "well", "if", and "should the situation arise."

Embrace the freedoms and liberties we have and work on that which is most apparent and critical - the moral breakdown of the American spirit.

That's all.

President Donald Trump and Why He is Hated by the Left and Right

At the risk of offending millions of Americans and undocumented immigrants I find it necessary to provide the nexus of why so many people hate President Trump.  In fact, the hatred goes so deep you can almost see venom come out the eyes of many who thirst for camera time.  I will break it down into a few areas pertinent to the American people.

Sexual Misconduct.  Stemming mainly from a secret video released during the campaign trail Donald Trump had made some disparaging remarks against females over a decade ago.  True, this is ugly and Trump owned up to it and made a public apology.  Still people hold on to it.  Why?

Before we all act as the judge of a man during a human weakness let me ask a question or two.  First as a margin note we as Americans really need to dispense with the notion of hope for a perfect and Godlike virtuous President of the United States.  It has never happened and it never will.  I say that with the overwhelming love and respect for our Founding Fathers.  Getting back to the human weakness I ask if any of you Americans ever engaged in even semi-locker room talk in your moment of weakness?  Though there are next-to-perfect people out there it is undoubtedly true that at the very least 75% of Americans have engaged in such talk of belittling someone else or a group of people.  I say 75% as an extremely cautious and conservative estimate.  If I mention any higher I may have a mob of snowflakes banging on my door.  If you condemn a man for a weakness and separate him from the human condition of change then we must condemn ourselves and qualify us as dust without the possibility of change even from birth.  It is a prideful condemnation and obviously leads to witch hunts.

Ignorance of How Things Work.  To this I say bull &(*%/!  I submit that Washington itself has forgotten how things should and were meant to work.  Washington has built itself an empire of "decades hardened" deceit, self interest and the ever pursuit of money and power at the expense of the very Americans they are elected and entrusted to represent.  Don't deny this, but every generation has always grumbled and complained about Washington and hoped for someone to truly represent them and change the status quo.  Now that we have one that gets results we spit at him and label him unqualified.  Wow!  How truly oblivious we've become.

Economy.  Now this gets me really bad.  The ONLY redirect haters have for the success of the economy is that it stems solely from Obama era policies.  Again, bull &*$@!  So.... the snowflakes are telling me that the fruits of eight years of the Obama regime were destined to be fully realized only within a couple months of the first term of the following President?  Yeah, right.....  The economy grows exponentially because President Trump's very nature demands positive action from all those around him.  Plain and simple.

Everyone knows that Donald Trump is a business man.  Everybody knows that he has wealth and has achieved the dream of the American spirit - success!  However, what is not reported is the very nexus of this entire post as to why he is hated.

~President Donald J. Trump possesses characteristics viewed as harsh and brash but are innately desired by every American to achieve success and influence the environment around them.  Because we all lack behind in most of these powerful characteristics we strike at the very thing we secretly desire.~

Trump says exactly how he feels without the sugar coat.  Is that not what we all want to do??  Trump leads and accepts no obstacle to sway that.  Secretly or openly do we not desire to lead??  Trump organizes people around him in order to move a vision forward.  Do we not want a more influential role in our social circles??  Trump is a patriot who holds traditional values of respecting the American flag and that America is upheld as a beacon of hope and prosperity.  Though less and less popular, but don't we all truly want the American spirit to thrive in our bosom??  Trump admits he is human.  How often are we caught in unfortunate acts or words and only wished people would remember that you are human as well??

In conclusion we claim ignorance against him.  Always remember that when we point a finger there are always three pointed right back at you.  Reflect in the mirror how you view Washington.  Reflect in your mind your own personal spirit and characteristics and what you desire and want changed in it.  Then..... openly ask yourself if President Donald Trump doesn't emulate some of the very traits you seek???

Bald With Wavy Hair in a Classy Convertible

Ah, yes!  I've never owned a convertible before up until about three months ago.  Since then it has been a joy and an excellent stress reliever.  Though I've put many dollars into it in repairs it has been well worth it.  After all, it is an '83 Ford Mustang.  Dealing with another Ford under my ownership has been a long suffering experience.  I had a Ford Tempo off the showroom floor many years back that spent more time in the shop then in actual use.  Fix Or Repair Daily has become a compass etched into my very DNA.

Anyhow, still in the spirit as I just got back from a sweet ride, I compose this blissful post as intended.

They say being bald is beautiful.  However, I would alter that to say "Being bald is beautiful when imagined with long flowing hair being blown back by the wind in a convertible."  Contemplate that inspired statement as you hang upon the tree of Wo equal to that of sitting in your roofed automobile.

Make no mistake all vehicles are designed to get you from point A to point B.  However, whether that vehicle has a soul or not makes all the difference in the world for the health, safety and sanity of the driver.  Modern automobiles have very little soul.  They're all the same!  There comes a point where the "aerodynamic" look becomes cliche and provide nothing to remember that vehicle by.  They have computers but not manly cough.  Sure, they hit 60, but they don't make the front end tilt when you press the accelerator in park.  Rise up!  Oh men of testosterone!  Man's best friend bears little resemblance to a dog but more like a classy well-loved vehicle.

As pertaining to my convertible it is like sailing in slow motion.  Cruising down the highway with the Cruise set at 57 really gets the blood going.  (Disclaimer: Being an old vehicle I fear blowing it up at any higher than that speed).  With sunglasses on and longing that in spirit my long locks of hair are dancing for all behind me to admire.  Fear departs!  Except that fear of a rain cloud or a deviant bird with exceptional aim.

Exercising a convertible is also a great weapon.  We hear all too often the doomed end results of road rage.  With a convertible, however, it causes an ear-to-ear grin to lift your arms after a long day or night at work and literally suffocate the engine of the car behind you.  Yes, wind plus ranking hygiene equals an unrivaled weapon against road rage.

Sure, my convertible is far from new and it gets a little embarrassing holding the door firmly to make sure it shuts.  Still it has something these new models do not have - character.  So for now I shall wipe my lovely old convertible with a diaper (name brand only and not generic) and sing it a lullaby every now and then.  For it is worth it for those occasions when the drive lifts one's soul to new heights.....and hopefully not to the mechanic's shop.

President Donald Trump Inaugural Protests

There are no protesters at the Inauguration festivities of President Donald Trump.  There is a difference between a protest and unemployed, willfully uneducated, terminally sensitive to the point of politically correct juveniles wanting a reason to break a window.  That's what is going on.  No protest just asinine behavior.

Instituting the Draft When Snowflakes Fly

The privilege to vote is among the grandest agencies we have as Americans.  As individuals, our vote is cast for particular people for noble reasons and for the most outrageous and pathetic reasons.  Nonetheless, each vote counts as a citizen of this nation.  Yet, there is a disconnect after the elections when everybody powers down from the campaign frenzy.  We no longer hold that elected representative accountable for their actions and promises.  Not only does that dissolve the integrity of that official, but it also dissolves our civic integrity as responsible Americans.  This extends to not only campaign promises but also basic decency as human beings.

I turn your attention to this past 2016 Presidential Election.  In fact, I extend your attention beyond even through President-Elect Donald Trump's cabinet picks and leading up to and including the Inauguration.  The partisan display is reprehensible!  The Constitutional Process of electing the President of the United States is the apex of our system of government.  It is the capstone of the collective will for the direction of our country.  It assures peace as power transfers to the successor.  It prevents tyranny and resets the political balance.

First off, scores of Democrats will be boycotting this Inauguration coming up in a couple days.  No, this is not unprecedented.  Throughout the political history in this nation as well as all others it has become a custom many Democrats, Republicans and others to not associate or support incoming powers elected by the people.  This lame childish behavior is something you would expect on an elementary schoolyard.  No American should expect or accept such behavior from their elected officials in Congress or any other venue of government.

As Americans of all persuasion, we have an innate duty not only to each other but to the world, to uphold our elected leaders to the standards of basis human decency and respect.  How can I make that claim?  Because we are Americans duly bestowed to lead the world on all fronts and how we conduct ourselves will be the standard for the world.

I have mentioned snowflakes in the title of this address.  The term "snowflake" is a derogatory term used especially in the last few months to categorize those who feel entitled for things they never worked for.  This goes further into politics.  Many believe they are entitled to whom they want elected.  When things go adverse to their desires, instead of accepting and moving on as real Americans they throw tantrums and promote frivolous protests and anarchy.    Snowflakes are those who have been conditioned by the cunning of Marxism to be easily offended and extremely sensitive in order to justify and enable the government to take care of them.  Entitlements and becoming a snowflake is a major point applauded in the holy grail of Marxism.  By design this "ism" snowflake syndrome is perpetuated through the most efficient and swift means available.  The media, Hollywood and vast rank and files of leadership have declared a literal war of political correctness upon it's own people.  As tainted gods they wish to remake man in their own image sharing the same skewed view of the world.  A nation of apathetic people is the icing for a spiraling people - just as the Romans of old.

Along with snowflakes I have entered the Draft into the title.  Now back in 1973 the Draft was discontinued.  In it's time it had served it's purpose.  Times changed and so the practice was dropped.  As an American who actively studies the founding principles of the United States I reject the forced compulsion of all types.  It strips all that we hold dear like agency and the freedom of choice.  If a person needs to be forced into an activity of a noble end, then I feel it is best to teach the doctrine of that action and end so that the person can choose for himself.  I bring your attention to the Pledge of Allegiance and standing for the National Anthem.  These are basic American acts of patriotism that perpetuate principles of what it means to be a true American.  To raise a child to not want to adopt a sense of national identity is ludicrous and unbecoming of a parent.  It is slothful upbringing and sows the seeds of chaos.

I would never entertain the idea of instituting a forced draft again.  Yet, on the other side of the spectrum I would advocate all parents to raise their children in a manner of holding sacred the serving of their nation.  To have every child expect of themselves, as they are expected, to serve their nation even in the minimum.  The draft indicates the military but I'm not advocating military service.  Yes, it is one way to serve but there are many ways to serve your nation in such a way that will help identify you as a compassionate patriot of the United States of America.

Stop the snowflake syndrome!  I implore all Americans to find the will of personal change.  Work for that which will sustain you and further your prosperity.  Don't degrade your potential by dwelling on wants.  That leads to an unsettled spirit of believing you are inherently owed something.  To the elected officials I say stop the infantile asinine behavior!  You are an elected official of a country ordained to lead.  Believe and act the part.  Cherish and honor the Constitutional systems.  Whether your candidate won or lost show your integrity and respect by attending the Presidential Inauguration.  Participate in bipartisan efforts.  Be open to various views.  Only an ass would believe his view is the only correct path.  Everyone needs to see the danger of being a snowflake without a backbone.

Normally I do not engage in categorizing.  Using the term snowflake is unsettling.  However, given the stark displays of late it is difficult not to.  The differing views of basic things is so startling that it is for some to declare at noonday that the sun still does not shine.  It is to say that you have no shoes when they are indeed on and laced up.  It is to say there is no food when you've got a hamburger in your hand and a shake in the other.  People have divided themselves up on a curved metal bar with a thin fulcrum representing liberty trying to keep it in balance.  Opinions are so far left or right that they cannot see anything else, and change is a long uphill journey on that curved bar toward balance.

Basic human obstacles of right and wrong are all now up for grabs in the game of compromise and self justification.

In the case of President Donald Trump we have cast stones when we, ourselves, are dirty with sin.  We haven't allowed this new President to change and have the weight of the Office and the spirit of all his predecessors work upon him.  We cast stones for stupid reasons of character.  Look back through your personal history.  Many of the things he's declared throughout his campaign are things you and/or your neighbor have said in conversation but dared not in large assembly.  Yet, when one man finally has the balls to declare those things to the world he is chastised and raked over the coals.

In brief closing I would just encourage everyone to do some serious self reflecting.  Look at how you've changed over the course of your life.  Allow our new President the same privilege.  Allow yourselves to be truly happy and prosperous through work so that you won't take anything for granted or handed to you.

These are my thoughts in the final 48 leading up to the Inauguration of President Donald Trump.

Priest and Friend Father Vern Smith Retires as Balm of Gilead

I have been invited to share a few prepared thoughts with you today on this landmark occasion.  Last night as I was going over my remarks my mind took me another direction that I want to share with you.  Then, I will deliver my previously prepared remarks.

John was a young man.  His home wasn’t the most supportive, and he always longed for that role model of integrity and substance.  Father Vern became this example and John took note for many years.

John grew and married a bright and faithful lady to proudly call his wife.  John, always striving to be a strong and unwavering husband and father, gained the knowledge and employment to enter social work in helping troubled teens.  He became a great influence not only to countless young men and women but also to his four children.

His children grew - each with their varying trials and tribulations.  They all, save one, went on to provide productive and God-fearing families.  The one lost sheep will be found and brought back.  Many of John’s troubled teens entered college, served humanitarian missions, found purpose in Jesus Christ and found joy in service.

This cascading effect began with the grace of God and the ministry of one man.  John is someone I made up, but represents many real people - even sitting in this hall - who’ve benefited from the ministry of Father Vern Smith.  No, his ministry does not end, but rather takes on a different form.  However, his ministry as you’ve come to know it lives on in how you build your own foundation, raise your households and improve the world around you using the example he has proven.

My remarks of my endearment of Father Vern as the man are these:

Anciently, Balm of Gilead was a major tool for not only healing and relief but also for trade.  This natural substance derived from the tree or shrub beyond the Jordan.  It is this Balm of Gilead that I wish to associate with a good friend of mine who retires from his service as Priest and shepherd of the local St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Father Vern and I have known each other for many years.  Joined in common hopes and goals we witnessed a true miracle.  Together, with our respective faiths, enjoyed an afternoon of dinner and song a decade ago.  This landmark event manifested a "Balm of Gilead" toward the healing of so many hearts and minds.  Truly, many had reservations of this event, but it served to advocate a positive change in all of us that allowed love and understanding to abide within.  A scriptural passage that encored this event is, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, where two or three are gathered together in my name, behold, there will I be in the midst of them - even so am I in the midst of you."  Yes, the Lord was present there that day.  On a personal level this event helped to solidify the friendship Father Vern Smith and I have, and to enable its continuation on into the eternities.

I'd like to share my thoughts of how this man has affected my own life.  Like so many mine is a restless spirit.  Like a sponge I receive any opportunity of extended gestures of genuine friendship.  Father Vern has a golden handshake that surpasses his official office.  Most will engage in a handshake and quickly pull away.  Unfortunately that's where we've come to as a people.  I've always looked forward to shaking Father Vern's hand.  His has genuine concern and love at it's foundation.  In a realm of mortals dwindling in unbelief, such a simple act of a true handshake literally becomes a Balm of Gilead.  It becomes that ointment, that substance from far beyond the eye can see to soothe and heal the heart at that time.

That is just me - one lowly bystander in a long line waiting for such a spiritual balm.  Countless lives Father Vern Smith has affected through this simple act.  Think of the widow who grieves for her husband and has her faith strengthened and sustained by the concern and empathy of the clasped hand.  Imagine the parents who've lost a child and just need someone there with arms embraced.  Let us not forget the young man or woman struggling with moral issues who found guidance and direction in the counsel of Father Vern's service.  The poor and homeless have found the Balm of Gilead in his outreach and attention.  Many people have benefited from the service of this man sent of God to shepherd the flock at the appropriate appointed time.

The parishioners of St. Mary's each have their own remembrances of Father Vern's service to the greater Shenandoah and Hamburg areas.  Each of these stories will undoubtedly go into his book of accountability.  From this one Mormon friend of his, I volunteer that his sincerity and concern was my Balm of Gilead on many occasions.  It is my belief, that when the day comes, the Lord will say, "Well done - thou good and faithful servant."

Election Year of Choices Both Large and Personal

Has the time come that the third of the hosts of heaven... the fallen... have completely shed their masks of deception?  Perhaps all these thousands of years deception of the legions upon the sons of Adam and the daughters of Eve were a false blueprint, a quiet and subtle road map, for mortals to emulate.  As the world around us crumbles politically, socially, religiously and most of all morally is it not evident, once the mask of deception is removed, that the house of the adversary reigns abundant?  In this, the last dispensation of the fullness of times, we must ask ourselves what strength we have within us.  By what power can we as the end root of our bloodlines stand with shield and sword in hand.

We used to revere and honor the Office of President of the United States.  No more do children proudly show their parents the assignment to show their hero - the President.  No more do children have security of heart as they are drilled at school on what to do if a shooter enters the school.  No more do we look forward to our leaders making wise decisions for the good of the people.  No more do our elected officials see as a visionary through the eyes of our Founding Fathers.  It is a shame that we now come to expect - AND ACCEPT - decisions of folly by those with delusions of grandeur and willful adoption by the public.

The divine hand on the checks and balances among the executive, legislative and judicial branches is losing grip by the pride of those entrusted to uphold them.  The Executive assumes power not given it.  The Legislative rarely votes and acts on true conscience, but overrides it along party lines.  The Judicial acts the same and is used through subterfuge of false prophecy by the other branches.  Planning future outcomes of measures and then plotting to make them so through judicial appointments.

The pursuit of legitimate happiness reigns in the hearts of fewer and fewer immigrants.  Legal prosperity through hard work and integrity with conscience seem so far away for those who cower daily in fear that they will be found.  All the while they take advantage of the amenities of authentic citizenship of the United States.  The dream is alive for so many but lacks among others in growing numbers.  The ability to immigrate and be accepted is a gift.  Yet, for those who do so averting the law, immigration becomes a curse and liability upon the people whom they now mingle.

We've denied our very design - man and woman - and the roles we've beforehand accepted to carry out.  No longer do we strive to perfect our design by endeavoring to align our spirits and control our passions, but instead pervert our design to adjust to our immediate desires.   We've explained and compromised that perversion by throwing our hand up and declaring it's just who we are.

One of the last breakdowns of humanity is the happily skewed view of human life.  Men and women hold themselves unaccountable for the divine gift of manifesting life in this world.  Pride and fear become the ingredients for the clouds of "perceived" clear conscience as they opt for abortion.  It matters not what stage of development the child is.  If one or more parent wants no part of it then the clouds of "perceived" clear conscience opens the ways for gleeful murder.

The proclamation of the family - those basic foundations each family procures as the teachings and arrangements for the raising of their family, are pushed aside in favor of entertainment and other derisions designed only to scar the young and the eternal relationship of husband and wife.  Even upholding religious teachings and values are seen as nonchalant and without substance.  No longer do we dress in our best as our ancestors did for church services, but arrive occasionally in convenient street clothes with our best still in our drawers.

Daily we live in fear of death as the threat of terrorism looms over even our young.  To the coward that hides their face and body in black they have already kissed the adversary and his hosts and willfully become possessed by the distorted in form.  Furthermore, we've lost faith, that evidence of that which is not seen but is true, that bona fide discipleship can keep the buffetings of Satan at bay.

We are surrounded by living examples of the work of imps.  Work that not long ago was disguised in the shadows.  Now the masquerade ball is over and the masks have come off.  The people have already accepted the work and have multiplied its spread among the living.

Yet, that divine spark is still there.  That still small voice still trumpets the heart.  Though the vast of us have all but shushed it to sleep it is still there.  It is that basic light of knowing good and evil that's adopted at birth among all the sons of Adam and the daughters of Eve.  The scepter is there but it is our choice to reach and clasp it's handle.

The bright day is coming when the earth shall be as a sea of glass.  The mountains shall be rolled back into smooth landscape and the lands shall once again be brought back together.  The mountain shall be split for Israel to escape the wolves.  Thus, the next thousand years of unmeasured prosperity and knowledge will reign among the greater portion of us who've chosen to listen to that still small voice.

Will you and I be among them?

Just as our leaders have divided their conscience along party lines we need to choose which side we desire to be on.  If our heart desires the other side which is brighter with wider fields of view than it is worth the painstaking journey to align our lives with that model.

If the journey seems long and full of obstacles then you're probably on the right one.  The road less traveled is the road that will enrich you with experience and knowledge.  We each have our vices, myself especially, but we need to see the distorted works around us for what they are.  They are attempts of the miserable spirits to draw us from the light.  They want us.  They feed off our life which they've been denied by their rebellion in the presence of God the Almighty.

That battle that rivals all the wars and contentions combined on earth continues today.  It began with the rebellion in heaven and rolls on into the winding up scene.  It is our choices that define us.

The line is drawn on the board.  It is the pieces (us) which individually we place on one side or the other.

Amish Mennonite Teacher on My Road to Damascus

The story of Saul and the Road to Damascus deals much with procrastination.  We hold off believing in something until a dramatic event forces the hand.  We tempt God and seemingly hold him hostage until we are struck on our eyes so as to see the truth of what we procrastinated for.  Saul started out a great persecutor of believers until he experienced a dramatic event on the road to Damascus to correct his ways.  Thomas failed to believe in the Resurrection of Christ until the Lord himself invited him to handle his hands and side.  These men and most of us today retract from learning precept upon precept unto a firmer belief in something.  To hide our weakness we declare us strong and shout down those that do believe a certain doctrine or fact of life.  Who is the weaker one?

Lately I've been in my solitude of thought in contemplation of man's nature against his brother.  I've been on the road much of late and have little other company than myself.  On a jovial note it makes arguments awful one-sided.  Anyhow, just last week I've been struck with a significant occurrence to me.  Significant to me but for most quite passive and not so significant.

There is so much death and hate going on.  On the political scene as well as religious man pits his wit against man (for we no longer refer to the other as brother).  Ideology has placed targets on people and marks them for death.  It is easy to allow the canker of hate drown out the peace of compassion and brotherhood.  It can darken one's own thoughts.  When that happens hate is resistance free, and the spread of contempt of heart and intolerance knows no bounds.

On a lonely road in the middle of Iowa I was shown an act of brotherhood without judgement or assumptions.  I love diversity and those opportune moments to come in contact with the Amish or Mennonites.  I think most of us do.  The simplicity of their ways and just the deep contrast from modern living is appealing.  However, I believe it goes deeper.  I believe that seeing a group of people holding on to a foundation of principles and beliefs appeals to our subconscious.  It is a silent reminder that man can lose his way without a foundation to build on.

On a particular hot and sunny afternoon I was traveling Eastbound near Creston, Iowa on Highway 34.  In the distance I noticed on the gravel side of the oncoming road a horse-drawn carriage with an Amish gentleman at the helm.  With plenty of distance he lifted his hand high and with a smile waved at me until I passed.  It was clearly sincere.  It was clearly in acknowledgement that I was his fellow brother under God regardless of my driving a car and blaring "Hotel California" on my radio.  I was greatly affected and this led me to deep contemplation.

Many of the rest of us do happily acknowledge one another.  For drivers, most of us do not wave to another unless the other starts the process first.  Yet..... do we outstretch our arm and wave in pure fellowship?  I am guilty as well and would venture to say that for most, acknowledgement of our kindness on the road is limited to the extending of our fingers over the steering wheel.  When studying the two situations it is amazing the difference how each makes you feel.  Whether as the giver or receiver the greater the effort of kindness the more positive reinforcement of goodwill you'll feel.

My Road to Damascus was in hoping to see greater consideration and love brother-to-brother sister-to-sister.  It is long and continuous.  It is a life journey.  This teaching moment offered that "smack in the head" that it does still exist out there, and that it's the subtle acts of kindness that has that silent but greater affect on the future of man.

He may not be aware of the impact his simple efforts afforded me but that's the point of it all.  True greatness is something not actively sought after.  It is something to be exercised through thousands of simple means.  True greatness is seen by others through your conduct and not something to boast of the self.  I thank God for that Amish dude and will look for him every time I'm on that stretch of road...... my Road to Damascus.

Chevy Cruze Impala Malibu Spark Volt Traverse Camaro Corvette Equinox Trax

Chevrolet has an outstanding line of cars and trucks stemming from major and minor redesign for aerodynamics, comfort, performance and luxury.  I am a car salesman in the the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area.  If you are in need of a Chevy product, or Cadillac for that matter, drop me a line and I'll fix you up.  This is a brief post from the life of a car salesman of an experience I recently had.  I tend to commit things to memory better when I physically log it in as a journal entry.  So here we go!

There has been that "stigma" of the car salesman that has existed for decades.  It's been there for almost as long as the automobile has existed.  He's that high pressure dude that suckers you into things.  In my short time in this career I've learned that the opposite is true.  In fact, the life of a car salesman can be extremely rewarding.  There are those opportunities to interact with all different types of folks which is what I love to do.  One lady comes to mind which is the purpose of this brief post.

We'll call them "Allison" and "Todd."  They came in a couple weeks ago wanting to upgrade to a newer Chevy Impala.  Allison was very hesitant in this decision.  She was so attached emotionally to her current vehicle I thought she'd have to be surgically removed from it.  I took them on a test drive in a couple of new 2016 Impalas, but she was very particular of the colors and lack of chrome.  I believe that was mostly a subconscious reason to hold on to her old vehicle.  Anyhow, Todd and Allison eventually settled on a vehicle.  Todd was fine and jovial, but I feared Allison was headed for a complete breakdown.  I really felt sorry for her.  Her 2008 Chevy Impala was literally a part of her being.  Boy I felt bad!

Eventually we got them all set up and they did go ahead with the purchase.  I had wondered how she was acclimating to the change ever since.  Recently I had to go to their home to get a paper signed.  I got there right as she was coming home from work.  When she got out of her new Chevy Impala she had a huge grin on her face.  That grin literally never left throughout our meeting.  She loved her new 2016 Chevy Impala!  It was at that point I remembered why I entered this difficult profession.  It was to make people happy in one of their most important financial decisions of their life.  Next to buying a home it is one of the most impactful decisions to make.

That ends this brief post but I felt it a worthy experience not only to share but also to remember on record.  Allison!....... keep smiling! :)

Passing of Shenandoah Leaders and the Torch of Service

Former City Attorney Bob Norris and City Councilman Don Gibson of Shenandoah have passed away, each from long-suffered illness.  Though a double whammy for the city of Shenandoah it is a time to reflect on what they've left behind.  It would be inappropriate for me to speak of surviving family members.  Yet, our hearts and prayers are with them all.  As a city official and one well acquainted with both, I offer my thoughts and reflections at this time.

I've only known these two men since my commencement on the Shenandoah City Council.  I cannot comment on growing up with these two, but I can comment on how they've helped me grow up.

Bob Norris was a fascinating man.  His knowledge of law baffled me many times in our meetings.  Not only was he greatly knowledgeable, but he executed the law with compassion, empathy and objectivity.  I have a deeper appreciation though.  Twice I have been blessed to be in his company on trips to Tisovec, Slovakia.  As part of our Sister City project we strived to know and understand our partners across the waters.  Bob had a genuine love for the people.  He bonded with them especially with he and his wife's host family.  I was impressed on more than one occasion to witness the tears in his eyes as he felt the sorrows of their history and the uncertainty of their future.

Remembering those who have passed on is a verb and not something passive.  The verb is in actively instilling those characteristics that impressed you into your very being.  To you that keeps them alive and active in your soul.  From Bob I will endeavor to remember his humility, honesty and integrity.  I will reach out even more to succor the downtrodden and the weak.  Truly, I will miss Bob Norris.

I served on the Shenandoah City Council with Councilman Don Gibson.  In addition to that I served on the Water Committee with him.  He had a unique view of the world and the bureaucracy behind it.  I was always impressed that all of his votes and opinions revolved around the good of the people.  Even in the face of opposition he held his ground on many occasions.  With all the contention revolving around our progressing new water plant project Don held his ground multiple times.  From Don Gibson I'll remember and pursue courage to stand for what I feel is right.

Experiencing death can be heart-wrenching.  It pulls at the emotional strings for the family and friends left behind.  Yet, in those troubled hours it is important to exercise faith in a bright hope.  It is important to believe with a degree of happiness that they are now in the joyous company of family and friends who preceded them in death.  Our loss in life can only be their gain on the others side.

Now, without the pain of sickness they live with clarity of thought and renewed love and hope for mankind left behind.

Brussels Terror Attack US Leadership and the Turning Tide of Public Opinion

On this day in history the rodents of ISIS claims responsibility for the terror attacks on Brussels in Belgium.  This event, as with all other deadly terror activities like Paris and New York City, should sicken the very soul of every God-fearing human being with even an ounce of compassion and empathy.  It is bad enough we must witness the cowardice of these vermin, but to continually witness the cowardice of political leaders and campaigners is equally unsettling.  As we in the United States watch this political season need we say our very humanity is at stake?  Should not our potential leader be one who has the courage to lead the absolute eradication of the disease ISIS?  Have we not, by our ignorance and arrogance, not finally come to the understanding that destruction is at our door and most likely has slithered under and around that door?  Are we still going to claim two blind eyes to the threat to the pursuit of happiness?

Our current leader in this post will take on the title from the popular Harry Potter series, "He Who Must Not Be Named."  Other posts of mine have named him but as time rolls on I've found him unworthy of mention by name.  I find him unworthy of the post he holds, and one supposing to be capable of fighting this cancer as well as showing support and empathy in times of sorrow.  While the world burns this day in Belgium, He Who Must Not Be Named plays ball with the Cuban regime dedicated to oppression and the downfall of the United States.  They drink and be merry at a ball game and wave their arms like circling wolves devoid of compassion and understanding.  Truly these past two terms of Office exemplify the mires of apathy we are led to accept as the norm of the West.

I speak for myself in saying my heart and prayers extend to the Brussels attack victims.  I've got a connection if you will as four of our Latter-day Saints (Mormon) missionaries have been seriously injured.  Missionaries - whose primary duty is to provide service to anyone in need.  Their innocence is not less or greater than the others who have been injured or murdered.  Violence of this type really rips at the heart.

Now a final thought that may not be popular.  Yes, I now support Donald Trump for President of the United States.  I take a longer view when determining my support during a Presidential campaign season.  Yes, I believe it is vital to have someone who supports and speaks the language of the Constitution of the United States.  From that standpoint I support Ted Cruz.  However, I also look at the needs of the people in the current time.  Is not our country in such a degraded state that demands action?  I should say so!  Sanders' social beliefs counter every principle this country was founded on.  Hillary is just a bad choice all around.  I shouldn't need to dig into her repertoire.  Cruz is good but I don't believe his time is yet to be President.  Rallying action is not his strong suit though his intentions are honorable.  What's needed is action.

Yes, Donald Trump is loose with the tongue.  Even to an offensive degree for me.  However, I believe his qualities are needed at this time in the history of the United States and the world.  Our economy is in shambles and the failed Affordable Care Act a.k.a. Obamacare is to say the least - unsustainable.  I know this first hand.  Most every businessman has had failed endeavors.  That charge of bankruptcies against him holds no weight.  What makes him good economically is that he's learned to press on and succeed.  Aside and also in connection with his business experience, as a leader he does know that he doesn't know everything.  What he does know is how to surround himself with those who do know.  To create a team of actionable professionals is what's needed in this current political and social climate.

Sure, I may be wrong, but it's a whole lot better than the thought of the progress of Socialism or ultra-liberal Hillaryism.

Again, may the victims of the Brussels attack and their families find comfort and solace in their time of need.  May we, in turn, be blessed to act on individual inspiration on how we might best help them and the threat at large.  These sick dogs (ISIS and other like groups) need to be slated off the world.  Ask yourself who in this political season has the platform to bring the United States back to a leadership role and truly lead the unmatched charge against them?

Is it not time to do our part and recognize the threats abroad - even at our borders?
